 Tenderfoot Outfitters is excited about our Youth Adventure Camps. These high country horse camps are designed to be a hands-on learning experience and an opportunity for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or any youth group between the ages of 10 and 17 to experience an authentic western-style horseback expedition into one of America’s last true wilderness areas.
Before departing from the trail head a professional guide and instructor will give a short, but thorough lesson on riding and handling horses on the high country trails. Since safety and comfort are our number one priority, our horses and tack are the finest available. Our experienced mountain horses have traveled many, many miles on the trails and are well trained, well conditioned, gentle, and strong. The saddles are padded, comfortable, and adjusted to each rider. Personal gear will be carefully packed on our string of pack horses for the two hour trip to our wilderness horse camp.
Accommodations at our camp are first-class with roomy sleeping tents, a spacious dinning tent, staff quarters, tack tent, horse corrals, latrine facility. Everything but sleeping bags and personal gear is furnished. Delicious and hearty meals are prepared and served each day by our camp cook.
 Structured daily classes include instruction in how to groom, saddle, and pack a horse, wilderness safety and survival, wilderness first aid, orienteering, gun safety, and shooting, and camping. Other activities include trail riding, hiking, tomahawk and knife throwing, pitching horseshoes, a zip line and slack line.
At Tenderfoot Outfitters, we have extensive knowledge in instructing young people. Our staff is comprised of an Eagle Scout and past scout master, a former college ski team, U.S. Ski Team, and U.S. Disabled Ski Team coach, and a past member of the U.S. Cross Country Ski Team. For groups with females, a women instructor will be in camp. All our staff is trained in backcountry first aid, and safety, and we’re a licensed, bonded, and insured outfitter.
 Since all of us at Tenderfoot Outfitters have been involved with youth programs, we’re very much aware of the prohibitive cost of some high adventure trips. With this in mind, we designed our Youth Adventure Camps to be an affordable alternative to these more expensive trips. To minimize impact on the wilderness, we must limit the number of participants to no more than fourteen. We also offer youth group rates on half and full day rides, tent bed and breakfast trips, backpacking trips, and hike in/pack in trips.
